Sexual Assault

Sexual Assault is any unwanted contact of a sexual nature, including unwanted kissing, touching, or sexual intercourse. Anyone can be a perpetrator. People from all walks of life, all ages, and genders can experience sexual assault.

Some facts about sexual assault:

  • Consent must be given before and during all sexual activity, even if consent has been given before
  • Sexual contact without consent is sexual assault
  • Consent cannot legally be given by an intoxicated person
  • Over 80% of perpetrators of sexual assault are known to the survivor
  • Less than 1 in 10 sexual assaults are reported to the police
  • The only person to blame for a sexual assault is the person who commits it
